All Things Conservative points out the masses of troops Turkey is putting in striking range of Kurdistan. They’ve said before that the would invade any independent Kurd region, and there’s the evidence to back their words. Jules has a whole list of other strategic reasons.

Meanwhile, here’s the reason Murtha uses for why we should abandon the country, which points out all the more the sheer lunacy of the anti-Iraq war people. Even if you have some reason, some rational for why you think it wouldn’t be a slaughter of innocent Iraqi civilians, the realpolitik reasons for not abandoning Iraq are so great that you have to be both blind and unhinged to ignore them. We need to win in Iraq, we are winning in Iraq, and the blood being spilled for Iraqi freedom — while never anything to mock or scoff at — is considerably less than in every other fight for the freedom of a people that we have ever engaged in.
