Russia has halted its war. Just somehow not its military actions. Its looking to see if Georgia is willing to give it what it wants yet: Depose their legitamate, democratically elected government, and severely weaken any independant democracy on their borders.
The other members of the G8 are meeting without Russia.
Why did the west give in so easily? The greatest terror of postmodern Westerners is “confrontation.” War is not the answer, and all that junk. Anything that could therefore provoke a larger war must be avoided. It has become a handicap, being an American ally. Until our left refinds its courage to defend freedom and stand up against tyrants, and until it remembers that America (and the western world), despite the issues it has always faced, is still the greatest bastion and example of freedom in the world, this is unlikely to change. The Soviet Union’s propaganda attempts to weaken us by instilling encouraging moral reletavism with the left, in other words, were successful. Their attempts to weaken us via modern art…not so much.
