Their female gymnastics team was underaged. Which I’m sure is only a surprise to the IOC. Gateway shows the whitewashed webpages here. I expect the IOC to be as strongly effective as the U.N. tends to be, even though there are all sorts of things the IOC could do to penalize China.
The Totalitarian Games article was pretty over the top. China is about as far from the sterotype image of a Maoist workers paradise as you can get. Of course, I would like China to have a western-style democracy but that is not going to happen overnight. It is hard to think of any alternatives to the present state of affairs in China that would not be worse. We see two giant post communist states taking different routes in Russia and China. It is clear who is on the right path.
I don’t know what is up with the IOC, are they afraid to upset China – because they would basically be saying the Government was somehow involved… Which I believe they are anyhow…
They need new appointees over there…
