The State Department keeps on listing Texas as a foreign country.

Transterrestrial has a couple of good links. First, pointing out that we’re in a culture war right now, of free markets vs. modern liberal fascism. And second, pointing out that we don’t seem to be winning.

Not a single Republican voted for the $3.4T budget, and neither did 17 of the more fiscally minded Democrats.

Liar, Liar?

Obama claims he’s willing to have a serious conversation with the tea party protestors about cutting costs? Well, some of the official organizers are willing to take him up on that offer. I’ll bet dollars to cents that he reneges on his offer…

The New York Post counts 100 screw ups in Obama’s first 100 days – some of them are pretty big ones, too. CNN can’t see nearly as many, because he’s just so perfect and dreamy!

I wasn’t going to mention the ineptness of the Obama administration when they did that photo stunt in New York that scared everyone, until I found out that not only did it cost the taxpayers $328,835, but they knew it would scare the people of New York, but they did it anyways! Now that’s just stupid. And arrogant. How do you interpret Obama’s actions any other way than that he thinks he’s immeasurably more important than the rest of us?

They’re just a teensy bit off. The economy is in fact doing worse than expected, which means that the people doing the projections aren’t taking everything into account – such as the number of people cutting back on their business due to spending and taxation concerns. Tell me again, why does he think European level social spending and taxation levels are going to give us an economy a couple points better than how we’ve been doing during the Bush years, rather than European level GDP growth?

The NY Times is blaming Republicans for the fact that it took until today for a HHS secretary to be confirmed. As I Think Link points out, we all should apparently ignore the fact that they nominated someone with tax problems. Clearly whoever Obama nominates is perfect and worthy, right?

After all the massive vote fraud in Ohio last election, it’s nice to see that at least some people didn’t get away with it. Too bad they can’t go after the Ohio Secretary of State who promised the state to the Democrats and then changed the rules to make sure that would happen. I mean, she set up the system to encourage massive vote fraud, even if she didn’t commit any vote fraud herself. Quite despicable.

Today Was A Good Day…

While I strongly wish I had a job, sometimes there are benefits to not having one. In terms familiar to anyone who’s taken Johns Hopkins Professor Eisner’s Declarative Methods Class: Today was a three ice cream day. Despite it being late April, the temperature here in Boston reached the mid 90s. Since the Boston Harbor Islands weren’t open yet, I took the red line down to Wollaston and hit the beach there for an hour or so. The water was what you’d expect for April, too cold for even the kids to play in, but refreshing to jump in and run out of. After the sun set and things cooled down a bit I also got in a game of ultimate.

With all of the swine flu news going around (and here’s a lighter take on that), here’s a point about what would actually help our national health care situation: incentivize the field so that more people want to become doctors. Of course, that would require deregulating the field, rather than the increased regulation that the Democrats tend to be in favor of.

He’s going to nationalize healthcare all on his own. All I can say to the GOP is, if Obama nationalizes healthcare, it better be on his own.

Anyhow, Obama’s angry that zero Republicans voted for his stimulus bill. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that he implemented zero of the suggestions Republicans had for it when he met with them?

Popular Mechanics has a piece well worth reading about your property rights and the rain that falls onto it.

China is buying gold instead of U.S. Dollars. The days where they subsidized our inflation are ending. Sunday, meanwhile, was the earliest “Debt Day” ever. Transterrestrial has a useful video that helps explain what President Obama is trying to do about it.

If you’re paying attention just to the GDP, you might be a bit surprised about the amount of tax receipts we’ve been collecting over the past year. This is because people have been “going Galt” just from the effects of Pelosi and Reid, even without Obama. The economic data is there: higher taxes kill the incentives of productivity. Even Andrew Lloyd Weber agrees. Oh, and the latest example of liberal fascism: Government is going to own 89% of GM. Yes, fascism is alive and well even today, and no, it doesn’t necessarily mean racism, genocide, or jack booted thugs. There’s more to it than that, just as there was when it was called the New Deal.

After it was revealed that Democratic leaders were briefed over 30 times on waterboarding (including Mrs. Pelosi) and had no objections then, the story has shifted. Now it’s about how the Democrats (especially Scooter Pelosi) are once again hypocritically trying to score political points at the expense of the rest of the country. Good.

True Wisdom

Regarding barbecue.

And somehow that makes it all better! I Think Link notices one of the many contradictions of the socialist policies of Hugo Chavez and his ilk.

An Italian cruise ship was attacked by pirates, but since the crew had guns of their own and shot back, the pirates gave up.

It’s amazing how often “human rights” activists argue that guns only put us all in more danger, and how often the opposite is proven to be true.

Case in Point.

Cause I know that many of you voted for Obama and the Dems since you thought that Republicans are the more totalitarian party. And sometimes some of them are. But Democrats pretty much always try to take away your freedom, just because they want government to have a finger in every pie. And that’s just what Obama is doing.

Even 10 year old children are subject to prosecution for what they say in England.

That’s what happens when people are willing to sacrifice free speech in the name of “tolerance.”
