Obviously they’re rioting and protesting right now – you can see links about that all over the place. Instead, here’s what you should care about: Egyptians see us as supporters of the regime, fundamentally against their liberty. George Bush made a stand for Democracy, and liberals around the world hated him for it – but now we know, once again, that he was right.
Also worth mentioning is where Egypt seems to be going. As others have noted, while the pro-democracy factions are certainly helping destabilize Mubarak’s regime, the best organized faction usually is the one that determines the next government – and the best organized faction is the Muslim Brotherhood. And they’re not pro-democracy. Instead Egypt is likely to continue their direction towards sharia and oppression. Oh, and there are also significant Marxist components among the protesters, as well.
