It’s against the law to pay tissue donors for their troubles, and that’s certainly made it harder to find donors, as they have to do it purely for charity.

To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our selection between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts as that, we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are.
Our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account; but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers.
Our land-holders, too, like theirs, retaining, indeed, the title and stewardship of estates called theirs, but held really in trust for the treasury, must wander, like theirs, in foreign countries, and be contented with penury, obscurity, exile, and the glory of the nation.
This example reads to us the salutary lesson that private fortunes are destroyed by public, as well as by private extravagance. And this is the tendency of all human governments.
A departure from principle in one instance, becomes a precedent for a second, that second for a third, and so on, till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering.
Then begins, indeed, the bellum omnium in omnia [the “war of all against all” - ed.], which some philosophers, observing to be so general in the world, have mistaken it for the natural, instead of the abusive state of man.
And the forehorse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression.
Unless you haven’t been paying attention to the news recently, you’ve probably heard some discussion about the budget, and the GOP (and actually, the Tea Party, first) vs Democrats and Obama on this issue. It’s gotten to the point where there’s even talk of another government shutdown. Obama won’t approve any budget cuts the GOP proposes, and is frankly hoping to force a crisis in order to reap political benefit. View full article »
Despite Wisconsin’s preparations against the unions, some of them are still putting up a fight.
It will be interesting to see what happens. Wisconsin is one of the first blue states that’s realized the trouble it’s in and is actually trying to do something about it rather than whine to the federal government for a bailout.
Here’s a question for any liberal who supports the unions: do you think it’s right for the unions, in the middle of a recession, to constantly protest every time a budget is presented where they don’t get more money than the previous year? I would really like to hear someone honestly try and justify that.
The pirates are winning. When nations won’t confront them with military, and demand merchants use non-lethal defenses, what do you expect?
Look, the pirates are willing to kill to take what they want. We should be willing to kill to defend ourselves.
In fact, it’s been in disarray for at least 7 years, when they began tracking it.
Clearly what we need is more government, right?
Just in case you thought that Conservative rhetoric about security was hogwash. Oh, and here’s another failed bomb plot. Meanwhile, the Democrat’s approach of turning everything into civilian trials still hasn’t resulted in a trial for KSM, and we now know for certain that political correctness, again from security doves like the Democrats, is the reason why we didn’t stop the Fort Hood killer before he actually killed.
In light of continued incidents like British students being taught to chop off hands, Europe is finally waking up to the truth that multi-culturalism doesn’t work – exactly while Democrats continue to press forward with it. Even here, though, we see “moderate” Muslims continuing to chop up anyone who offends them.
Just once, it’d be nice if they actually took a little perspective into the issue before they vote against America just for the sake of opposing us.
Update: This article says much the same thing, but with thoughts a bit more complete.
They’re voting to invite Gitmo detainees to live in the city. I’m guessing they see kindred spirits in such anti-American people.
In Federal Court. They’re holding up 103 drilling permits, and also the reason Shell just canceled their offshore arctic drilling plans. But hey, it’s not like the jobs would help our economy, or like having domestic sources oil production would help our domestic security, or like lowering the price of oil by adding supply would help the economy…
And this is a clear illustration why we just need to cut out corporate taxes entirely. When corporations are profitable merely because the tax system has been thoroughly rigged in their favor, they’re not benefiting society – they’re not competing fairly, just pushing their costs to the taxpayer. When corporations’ biggest block to profitability is the tax code, the tax code is actively hurting that industry, not doing anything to encourage companies to actually focus on innovatively delivering services or goods to society.
Of course, they want to have children. You won’t hear the feminists defend them unless they want to have abortions.
Homeland Security discontinues allowing airports to hire non-TSA security – as a kickback to the TSA unions who, as always, can’t stand the competition.
In other union related news, watch these leeches protest because their previously negotiated mandatory wage and pension increases are in danger of disappearing. Mandatory wage and pension increases? The economy is collapsing around them and they’re complaining because they won’t be guaranteed a raise?
They’re broke, and drastic measures are needed to fix things. And union shenanigans aren’t going to be tolerated.
This time, it’s based on the political parties it honors for FOIA requests.
If our media was anywhere near honest, this sort of thing would be a scandal they shout from the rooftops and demand heads for. But since the bias is against conservatives…
