First off, an excellent webcomic xkcd actually does a pretty good job of putting radiation exposure into perspective – and reminding readers that the real tragedy is the earthquake and tsunami, which tens of thousands have been affected by. Candles kill more people than radiation.

Also, for everyone panicking, please stop taking those potassium iodide tablets. You’re doing more harm to your health than good.

Meanwhile, radiation levels continue to decrease at Fukushima, and everything is even more under control. As I’ve said all along, it was what amounts to a bad industrial accident, a distraction for the media while tens of thousands of people were in trouble from the

Imagine that.

Liberals seem to think that doling out money to special interests makes them un-racist. But that’s just racist in a different way.

Not Getting It:

Well, what about all the government funding Fox receives, why don’t we remove that as well?

The fears of radiation are causing more damage than the radiation itself. Meanwhile, the Japanese have a new power line to Fukushima to power the cooling and pumping equipment, and this link right here explains that they’re not trying to prevent a meltdown, merely trying to keep everything contained.

So, after dithering throughout this whole Libyan crisis, the U.N. finally said something should be done about Libya, which of course means that Obama is finally willing to stop playing golf and matching up NCAA teams long enough to order action. And once we actually threatened action – Libya surrenders. So in short – how many Libyan lives could have been spared if we ignored the U.N. and just did the right thing, either alone or with NATO?

Meanwhile, Liberals everywhere seem to think that military action against a dictator who’s slaughtering his own people is the most noble thing one could do. That’s why they supported Iraq, too.

So focus on the real tragedy please, people.

About Our Spending

Iowahawk does a very good rundown of the numbers. All we need to do is rob pretty much absolutely everyone of all of their money, and we’ll be fine – for this year. And the real pink elephant in the room is of course entitlements – which aren’t even being put on the table for cutting.

Here’s one for you: Nancy Pelosi saying Democrats have long fought for fiscal responsibility in Congress.

One last thought: here’s a good rundown of why increasing taxes won’t solve our problems, we MUST cut spending.

  1. There’s a lot we could do to generate our own energy, if we stopped letting the Democrats forbid us every which way. Oh yeah, and the energy costs to our economy would be drastically lowered.
  2. We’re not going to get off of foreign energy dependence on just solar and wind alone. That’s stupid math.
  3. While there’s a lot we could do to improve safety in every energy industry, the more energy we produce via nuclear, the safer the entire energy industry would be.

Let’s see, what has Obama been up to lately? Besides being “caught off guard”, as always (Does anything except political worship not catch the Obama administration by surprise?).

Surf’s up!

Lower the passing grade to D and F levels!

TSA Power And Greed

Not only did they bungle the radiation tests on their nudie scanners by a factor of 10, they’ve been cooking the books on the price of private alternatives to the TSA.

For example, making it fluorescent!

Note that this method could have a lot of medicinal purposes, as well.

A lawsuit.

First of all, their building codes have in many ways redeemed themselves. As Reason goes on to highlight, building codes aren’t enough, there other societal facets around those building codes that have also strongly contributed to what successes Japan has seen in this whole situation. Earthquake prone areas of the U.S. would do well to absorb these lessons.

Meanwhile, here are some thoughts on the complexity and fragility of society. As with pretty much everything else, decentralization and local control can go a long way towards resilience.

At least a bit. Good.

Just by rough estimates, Japan suffered somewhere between 35 to 171 Billion in damages – but that’s not the end of the story.

Japan has been in a similar position to our current situation, with massive amounts of government debt that they were unwilling to confront, and a fairly stagnant economic situation, compounded by an overly stifling regulatory government. There’s a lot of good reason to think that this may be the tipping point that forces the realization of that debt on their economy.

And you can likewise reasonably believe that all of this will have a direct impact on our own financial positionbeyond the simple fact that Japan is one of our closest allies and one of the worlds largest economies.

At the DOJ. In other words, we know they discriminate, but it’s now official that it will never be admitted.

Oh, and here’s some more racial discrimination for you.

Or at least, he seems to think it would be a more enjoyable position – because there he could do what he wanted and people wouldn’t gainsay him.

Food prices rose 3.9% last month.

Let’s see, we’ve got:

And of course through all of this the media, and Obama, who were so up in arms about the civility in our societal discourse when they could falsely blame conservatives for a lunatic lefty’s actions, have remained silent. It’s also worth pointing out that you can show, again and again, that the right is the side that actually followed the rules and behaved democratically. In other words, it’s pretty clear which side are the fascists, despite who screams that word the loudest.
