Newt Gingrich has certainly espoused certain big government principles before occasionally, but I don’t see McCain as having a stronger claim to conservatism than Newt in any way.

Also note that there’s a huge difference between greed – wanting more for yourself – and covetousness. The left denounces greed while making a virtue of covetousness – because they view the world as zero-sum, when it is easily provable as not. Of the two, covetousness is in the ten commandments.
After years of them claiming Republicans hate the poor as an excuse to implement the sorts of policies we see in Detroit, it’s only fair to ask them the same question.

The main thing I don’t like about Santorum is his focus on social issues – which I’m not opposed to, but which I think he’s a bit more big-government approach about (which I personally don’t like), and which I feel has a the best chance of bringing out Obama’s base than anything else. While his fiscal past isn’t the cleanest, it’s certainly no worse than the other two candidates.
Are actually that he doesn’t get angry. Conservatives are looking for someone who will give a rousing defense of personal liberty, especially to the media and the left. Mitt is very religious and principled in his own quiet way, and can certainly get fired up to act effectively on issues – but he’s certainly not the confrontational-stickler-for-the-truth type.
Yeah, that’s why I very much want to see the Romney establishment lose in Florida.
Obama’s to Reagan’s. Or Bush’s, I might add.
