Whether you choose to howl with laughter or break down crying when you hear all these is your choice, but either response is appropriate:
- Democrats don’t want to vote for a bill they haven’t read.
- Divided government is what’s keeping us from reaching a budget deal. [Right. And the past two years…?]
- Democrats: ‘We support a balanced budget amendment’.
- Republicans are the ones who aren’t compromising. While Democrats are. [We’ve seen several times – everyone at the table was just about happy, and then Obama, at the last minute, demand more taxes. And the media paints it (of course) as Boehner’s fault.]
- The Democrats have any sort of actual plan. [They just haven’t passed it in the past two years.]
- Obama’s being a leader by not having a plan.
- Obama is the only adult in the room.
- Obama’s trying to compromise.
- A balanced budget is hard to pass.
- Social Security checks are being endangered by these negotiations.
- Reagan increased taxes.
- 80% of us want tax increases.
- The problem is revenue, not spending.
- Republicans, in not raising the debt ceiling, are doing something Democrats haven’t done.
- Bush is to blame for the debt, and Obama just inherited it.
- The problem is the debt ceiling, and not the debt. And not entitlements. And not the debt ratio. And not spending.
- Voting on another debt increase next year would be as bad as default. [After all, it might ruin Obama’s campaign.]
- It’s hard to figure out how to satisfy the Republicans in the current debate.
- It’s hard to figure out a budget that Republicans would pass in the House.
- This is a debate about race.
- Our children will lose their schools.
- Democrats aren’t playing politics with the current debate.
- The issue being fought over is default.
- The country will default if the debt ceiling isn’t raised.
- Obama’s not asking for a tax increase. He’s not looking to raise taxes. He hasn’t raised taxes.
- Republicans are proposing anything new.
- Spending is actually being cut.
- Paul Ryan’s budget is worse than Al-Qaeda.
- Increasing taxes is just as important as avoiding default.
- This conversation is at all serious.
- Some things, like Obamacare, must remain off the table in these debt negotiations.
- Republicans are holding the American economy hostage.
- The debt ceiling issue needs to be solved through 2012.
For additional fun, here’s some other Obama howlers:
- You shouldn’t raise taxes during a recession.
- We’ve got to get our fiscal house in order in Washington.
- We can’t simply cut our way to prosperity. [How would he know, it’s the one thing he hasn’t tried…]
- Personal financial advice: Don’ spend all your money.
